NFMAA SAC Meeting Minutes

September 18, 2018

Meeting Called to order at 8:00 AM

School Improvement Plan:  Dr. Millins discussed our School Improvement Plan (SIP), as required by state statute.  A 3-year comparison of the school’s academic achievements and learning gains in the areas of ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies (Civics EOC), and Acceleration Success were provided to the SAC Committee.  He explained how our administration uses the information to build an improvement plan.  Dr. Millins discussed five areas that we will focus on this year; Attendance, Behavior, ELA Lowest 25% of Students, Math Lowest 25% of students, and Civics.  The committee reviewed each goal and action steps in depth.  A 2018-2019 School Improvement Goals sheet was provided to the committee.

A motion was made by Jessica Pemberton to approve the SIP Plan.  Gwen Boyd seconded the motion.  Motion carried.  The committee approved the 2018-2019 SIP Plan.

“Dads” Group Discussion:  Dr. Millins and Heidi Bungard discussed the adoption of a “Dads” group at NFMAA.  This group of parents and volunteers will act as mentors and/or role models for our students, as well as aids inside and outside our building throughout the day.  The group will be identifiable with shirts or vests and will help at student arrival and dismissal by providing extra security.  These parents may also be available for after-school and evening events for additional assistance.  NFMAA PTO will look into financially supporting this group.

Update on Data:  Dr. Millins gave a brief update on academic data.  He provided baseline STAR testing information and discussed other areas of data collection and tracking.  The committee discussed how we use “buckets” to monitor our student’s progress.  Elementary students can find their bucket data in the front section of their planners.

Good of the Order:  A SAC member asked a question about tutoring opportunities at NFMAA.  Dr. Millins explained that with the loss of Title 1 funding we are no longer able to meet this need.  Dr. Millins stated that he is able to use some funds from fee-based programs such as Arts Enrichment to provide assistance for FCAT/FSA prep.

Jessica Pemberton motioned to adjourn the meeting.  Dr. Millins seconded the motion.

The next NFMAA SAC meeting will be October 16th at 8:00 AM
