Hello NFMAA Families,

Once again, I would like to introduce myself as the new principal of North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts (NFMAA). My name is Andrea Gunns and I am very excited to be the new principal at NFMAA.

In the past couple of months, the School District of Lee County’s Office has worked diligently to develop re-opening plans for schools through-out Lee County.  At this time, schools have received re-opening recommendations and we are in the process of tailoring these recommendations to specifically meet the safety needs of NFMAA.  In these unprecedented times we are in the process of implementing a number of safety precautions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With that in mind, there are a number of reminders and changes that we would like to share with all of our families.

Visit our website “Back to School” section

KG Open House is scheduled for Thursday, August 27, 2020 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. KG teachers will be scheduling individual appointments with our new families. Parents are welcome to bring their school supplies with them at the scheduled meeting (KG only). We are asking that only the parent comes with the K student.

6th Grade Open House is a drive thru scheduled for Tuesday, August 25, 2020 from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. Parents will pick-up a packet of NFMAA information, check out a chromebook if needed, and 6th graders who will be doing home connect will pick-up their consumable materials.

Grades 1st-5th & 7th& 8th Home Connect are scheduled to drive thru on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 (Grades 1- 3 from 3pm-5pm, Grades 4-5 from 5pm-7pm, Grades 7-8 from 4pm-6pm). Families will pick up consumable materials and check out a chromebook if needed.

All Grades: We are highly encouraging students / families to view open houses videos on our website so families can learn about the school, see welcome videos from teachers, complete the required forms and to ensure a successful start of the school year.

Face to Face Students: If your child received a Chromebook in the Spring and is coming back to school Face to Face on August 31st, they will need to keep it and have it charged and prepared for school the first day.

Home Connect: If your child received a Chromebook in the Spring, they will need to keep it for their learning this fall.  If your child did not receive a Chromebook in the Spring, they will be given one on August 26th during the drive thru Open House.

Lee Virtual School: If your child received a Chromebook in the Spring, they will need to keep it for their learning this fall.  If your child did not receive a Chromebook in the Spring, they will be given on through Lee Virtual School.

SUPPLY LISTS can be found on our school website. KG teachers are requesting supplies to be dropped off during your scheduled appointment during open house and teachers in Grades 1-8 are requesting supplies be sent in the first day of school.

SCHOOL START TIMES: 7:55 – 2:10 p.m. / Students are allowed to arrive on campus after 7:30 a.m.  Please no prior drop-offs as we will not have supervision.

NFMAA After-School Arts Enrichment:  Will be offered in the afternoons on a limited number basis. Please continue to check our school website for updated information.

BREAKFAST AND LUNCH: Will both be provided without a charge.  Breakfast will be offered in the morning with three “Grab and Go” stations strategically located on campus. Students will have the opportunity to pick up a prepackaged breakfast and proceed to their classrooms. (This will limit the number of students in large areas such as the cafe).  Lunch time will be held within student classrooms to prevent any large gatherings of students in one location.

NFMAA’s number one goal is student and staff member’s safety.  We have developed processes and procedures including arrival and dismissal procedures, breakfast and lunch procedures, hallway, recess and specials procedures just to name a few. Water fountains will not be utilized by the students in the hallways, but NFMAA will offer hydration stations throughout campus and students are highly encouraged to bring reusable water bottles and hand sanitizers to school.  We have also created a cleaning process and schedule to clean and sanitize classrooms through-out the day and at night with our night-time custodial crew.

MASKS: are required by all students, faculty and staff members with the exception of when students are eating and able to socially distance while participating in PE and recess.

DISMISSAL: At dismissal each day students will stay in their classrooms with their teacher and watch for their name or bus number to appear on the smartboard screen which will be their signal to either make their way to the bus ramp or out to meet their car at parent pick up.  A survey went out to gather information for creating parent pick up tags. If you did not get the survey you may access it here:

PARENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENTER SCHOOL – The School District is restricting any individuals including families, parents, or volunteers on campus.  Parents are not going to be permitted to walk students to class.  We will have NFMAA faculty and staff members on campus ready and willing to escort your child to their classrooms.  We understand that this is a tremendous change from past practices but we need to ensure a safe environment for our students.

Please continue watching the news or visiting The School District of Lee County’s website with any changes or updates.

Once again, although this is a very unique school year, I am very excited to be working with you and your children at NFMAA.

We are looking forward to a great year at NFMAA!
